For over two decades, J. David Atherton has been at the forefront of game audio, contributing to some of the most iconic and beloved video games of all time. His expertise spans across dialogue recording, sound editing, and asset production, creating rich, immersive audio experiences that resonate with players long after the screen goes dark.

Currently, as the Lead Dialogue Editor at Sound Lab a Keywords Studio, David is focused on cultivating innovative teams and collaborating on cutting-edge game projects. This exciting new role allows him to combine his technical expertise with his passion for bringing storytelling to life through sound.

Previously, David ran Sonic Boom Sound, partnering with major companies like Sony, Ubisoft, Microsoft, and SEGA to produce memorable audio for some of the biggest titles in the gaming industry. His collaborations with Blindlight LLC saw him working on notable games like Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, Iron Man, Star Trek, Destiny 2, and Starfield, overseeing the recording, editing, and production of dialogue. Each of these projects helped solidify his reputation as a reliable and invested participant in creating game sound content.

Earlier in his career, David served as Sound Supervisor at Knowledge Adventure, a leader in children’s educational software. It was during this time that he worked with Dolby Laboratories to create the first edutainment content in Dolby Surround, pushing the boundaries of the technologies available at that time.

David is also a proud member of the Motion Picture Sound Editors (M.P.S.E.), where he not only contributes to the advancement of sound in media but also plays an active role in passing the baton to the next generation of sound professionals. He is passionate about mentoring aspiring talent.

David’s specialty lies in crafting the perfect audio to elevate narrative and gameplay, and he remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of game audio. He is always eager to work alongside talented teams to create the next generation of immersive and unforgettable gaming experiences.
