Scott has been active in the film community for over thirty years. With films such as Transformers One, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (which recently won the Oscar for Best Animated Film), Pacific Rim, Hellboy 2, Chronicles of Riddick, Team America, Shrek, Nightcrawler, and American Beauty, he has established an impressive body of work.
Scott has garnered 11 MPSE Golden Reel Awards and over thirty nominations, as well as TEC Awards and BAFTA nominations. He has also contributed to numerous projects that have won Oscars. Most recently, Scott was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Game Audio Network Guild for his groundbreaking work and sound design in the gaming industry.
Scott has studied music since he was 10 years old and can be identified as that kid you grew up with who made sound effects and creature noises with his mouth. Little did he know it would lead him into a career doing just that. His talent for creating personalities with his voice has been tapped for such memorable movie characters such as Flubber in Flubber, Herbie in Herbie Fully Loaded, Antie in Honey, I shrunk the Kids, Reapers in Blade II, the Dragon in Shrek, Kerchak in Tarzan, and most recently as Dog Fish in Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.
After attending Berklee College of Music, Scott became one of the pioneers of audio technology in film and games. As a synth programmer and recording engineer, he was among the first to utilize computers for editing and designing sound to picture. Scott has embraced technology to enhance storytelling through audio, immersing audiences in new and exciting ways—work he considers some of his best to date.
Scott has also shared his expertise as a lecturer and mentor, speaking across the US, UK, Japan, Costa Rica, Canada, and Scotland at universities, conferences, and companies such as Microsoft, Capcom, and Ubisoft. He has consulted with over 30 companies on evolving audio technologies for film, games, music, and VR.
Previously, Scott worked at Soundelux for twenty-seven years as a sound supervisor and sound designer, and he was also the founder and executive creative director of Soundelux Design Music Group. After departing Soundelux, Scott founded several companies such as Formosa Interactive, Sound Lab at Technicolor, and The Sound Lab, a Keywords Studio, where he currently works.
