Janet Robin is a GRAMMY®-winning composer, arranger, guitarist, and producer whose career spans recording, touring, film and television, and instrumental music.

A Southern California native, Robin began studying guitar at an early age with legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads, whose mentorship helped shape both her musicianship and creative approach. She launched her professional career while still in high school as lead guitarist for the all-female rock band Precious Metal, later touring and recording with artists including Lindsey Buckingham, Meredith Brooks, and Air Supply.

Those experiences ultimately led Robin beyond the role of guitarist and into composing, arranging, and producing. Her work draws from an unusually broad musical vocabulary-rock, acoustic, Americana, classical, world, Latin, and cinematic music, with the guitar often serving as the foundation for her writing.

Robin is a founding member, arranger, and co-producer of the instrumental guitar trio The String Revolution, whose genre-defying recordings have earned millions of streams and international recognition. In 2024, The String Revolution won the GRAMMY® Award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella for their reimagining of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,” featuring Tommy Emmanuel and produced by John Carter Cash.

Her recent arranging and production work includes “America” from West Side Story, featuring saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin and percussionist Luis Conte, as well as “Bad Zombies,” an ambitious reimagining combining music from Plants vs. Zombies with Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy,” featuring cellist Tina Guo. These projects reflect Robin’s approach to arranging: taking familiar musical ideas and rebuilding them into something cinematic, unexpected, and entirely new.

As a composer, Robin writes original music for film, television, games, and other visual media, bringing together her background in guitar, songwriting, arrangement, production, and live performance. Her original songs and instrumental works have appeared in television and film, and she has composed scores for award-winning short films screened at festivals.

Robin has also produced recordings for numerous artists and continues to work with acclaimed musicians, songwriters, and producers, including John Carter Cash at the legendary Cash Cabin Studio in Tennessee.

Her decades of experience as a touring musician have given her a distinctive perspective as a composer: she understands music not only on the page or in the studio, but from the inside out-as a player, arranger, producer, and storyteller.

Whether composing to picture, creating a new arrangement, producing an artist, or performing with The String Revolution, Robin’s work is driven by the same idea: using sound, musicianship, and emotion to tell a story.
